Fowler H.W. Robinson
This Fowler locomotive was built back in 1946, being works number 4100003, and previously having worked for Croda
Hydrocarbons, Rotherham. H.W.Robinson is seen here shortly before being transferred to the Railway. It is a very small
locomotive, as the engine is only 80hp, but this small 0-4-0DM has proved useful in the past, and H.W. Robinson is currently
the Signal and Telegraph department's locomotive. However, it is in need of a repaint. If you would like to volunteer to do
this sort of work, see our volunteering page, and get in touch with the railway to help restore
this loco to a smart livery. The picture at the top of the page shows it hauling a few wagons into Embsay Station under the
footbridge which was being rebuilt in the late 80s. Just visible in the sidings in the background are the recently
arrived Class 14 and the chassis of The Bug.
A 'new' gearbox has been acquired for this loco (see photo), and will be fitted at the same time as the rest of the work is carried out on this loco - probably the next project for the D&P department. It will require substantial amounts of attention to the bodywork as well as a repaint, possibly following the completion of the work on 36. VOLUNTEERS would be greatly appreciated...
